Tom Selleck’s latest update on ‘Blue Bloods’

Blue Bloods is one of the most popular and long-running dramas on TV – but the series will soon end, with its Season 14.

According some of the actors, the saga of the beloved Reagan cop clan will ”go out with a bang”, although the ending isn’t written yet.

For the series’ major star, Tom Selleck, 79, it’s going to be an emotional goodbye.

It’s no secret that Tom Selleck has loved being a part of Blue Bloods. His portrayal of Frank Reagan, the patriarch and police commissioner of the Reagan family, is characterized by a mix of strength, integrity, and a touch of vulnerability.

While Selleck is a central figure, the chemistry and dynamic among the entire ensemble cast of ‘Blue Bloods’ add depth to the show.

But soon, all of this will be a distant memory. Blue Bloods has broadcasted 275 episodes and will conclude its run with a total of 293 episodes. As per reports, the cast had to accept a reduction in their pay to bring the last season to fruition.

While CBS is apparently tightening its belt a bit, Blue Bloods remains one of their most successful shows: it’s the #1 primetime program on Fridays with 9.54 million viewers, according to the press release, and is one of the most-watched shows on streaming service Paramount+.

”CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas,” Selleck told TV Insider.

When it was announced that the series would come to an end, the Magnum star made an emotional statement.

“For the past 13 years it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family,” he said. “Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

The 79-year-old veteran actor would have liked to continue with the series, it seems. Despite his advancing age, it appears that Selleck cherished his time working on Blue Bloods. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Selleck announced that he isn’t quite ready to retire to his ranch in Ventura, California.

The actor is said to be at his happiest when he is at his aforementioned avocado farm. As per RadarOnline, he purchased the property – which used to be a hunting lodge – from Dean Martin in 1988.

”I’m not counting the days so I can do something else. I love the work. Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what? I want work as long as they’ll have me,” Selleck says.

The iconic actor was also asked about what has made him most proud regarding the popular CBS police procedural.

”Playing a flawed but strong father. On television and commercials, Dad is usually the idiot. It’s not my mission on the show, but the by-product is an example of an important patriarch to the family. That’s getting rarer in our culture,” Selleck responded.

There have been rumors over the years that Tom Selleck, who once left Magnum, P.I. at the height of its popularity, might depart from Blue Bloods. However, it’s now clear that he’s very committed to the series even after 14 years.

Selleck also said that the cast are “all friends” and that he “loves” his co-stars.

“Our dinner party scenes are like a reunion of friends,” Selleck told People. “Sometimes it’s hard for the directors to get us to concentrate. We do the work, and we do it well, but we’re also screwing around and kidding each other and catching up. What we have is truly a blessing.”
