Jim Parsons Says He Wouldn’t Consider a Big Bang Theory Reboot Now: ‘They Call It Lightning in a Bottle for a Reason’

The Big Bang Theory ended its 12-season run in 2019. Since then, the stars of the show have remained friends, meeting up for casual reunions over the past several years and even making TV appearances together.

Fellow cast members Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch reunited on screen for season 3 of Night Court last month, and Bialik, 48, and Parsons both appeared in the series finale of Young Sheldon, which follows Parsons’ Big Bang Theory character Sheldon Cooper’s younger years growing up in Texas.

Although fans have asked the cast about a reboot since The Big Bang Theory ended its long run, Parsons revealed in October that he has no desire to revisit the show anytime soon.

“As we sit here now, no, but I also I would I never say never to anything, because life just changes so much,” the actor said during an episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace. “You know, one of the things is that it was so special as what it was. And they call it lightning in a bottle for a reason, and you can be certain it wouldn’t be that.”

“And so why would we be doing it? I don’t know, that’s how I feel on that right now. But like I say, God willing, life is very long,” Parsons added.

The Cast of The Big Bang Theory: Where Are They Now?

Cuoco, meanwhile, teased in an interview with PEOPLE last month that she would “absolutely reprise that role.”

“100%,” she said of once again playing Sheldon’s quirky neighbor Penny. “I love that character, and I always will.”

“I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre,” Cuoco said. “It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”
